Stockholm’s airports 2/2: Bromma (BMA) and Skavsta (NYO)

On this blogpost you will find out how to get to Stockholm’s city center from the two smaller airports serving the metropolitan area: Bromma and Skavsta Airports. [To read my previous blogpost about how to get to/from Arlanda International Airport click here].

Bromma Airport (BMA):

Stockholm’s Bromma Airport is the closest commercial airport to the city center. It works mostly with European and domestic flights, operating only with relatively short distances. As for February 2020, the only four airlines that flight to Bromma are:

  • BRA Airlines
  • British Airways
  • Brussels Airlines
  • Finnair

You can access the official airport website by clicking on: https://www.swedavia.com/bromma/#gref

Public transport:

Public transport in Stockholm is operated by SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik). You can buy your SL ticket for single rides or valid for 24 hours, 72 hours, 7 days, 30 days and more. You can check SL’s rates here: https://sl.se/

Both following options are included in SL’s tickets.

Option 1: Bus 110+Alvik Subway

Duration: Bus 110 (20min) + Tunnelbana ride (13min).

Route: The Bus line 110 starts in Bromma Airport and ends in Alvik after 15 stops. You will need to access the Alvik metro station (Tunnelbana) and take the green line towards T Centralen (8 stations).

Schedule: Weekdays from 6am to 9:30pm. Weekends from 9:30am to 7:30pm (Saturdays) /4:30pm (Sundays).

Option 2: Bus 152 + Sundbyberg

Duration: Bus 152 (10min) + Tunnelbana ride (13min).

Route: Take the Bus line 152 in Bromma Airport towards Liljeholmen. After 5 stops, get off the bus on Sundbyberg torg and transfer to the Tunnelbana located in Sundbyberg centrum. Take the blue line towards T centralen (7 stops away).

Schedule: Weekdays from 6:00am to 8:30pm. Weekends from 8:00am (Saturday)/ 10:00am (Sundays) to 6pm.

Booking: You can purchase your SL ticket at Bromma Airport or any subway station, in all SL vending machines or using the SL app.

Commercial bus:

As for February 2020, Flygbussarna is the only bus company covering the route between Bromma Airport and Cityterminalen. Free WiFi and electric plugs are available on board. In my opinion, this is the right choice when saving time is your priority!

Duration: 20min approx.

Schedule: Buses depart from 7am to 10pm every day. I recommend you to go to Flygbussarna official webpage to check the specific departure hours.

Rates: 89 SEK approx.

Route: Flygbussarna travels from Bromma Airport to the city’s bus terminal (Cityterminalen) located in T Centralen. The bus makes a quick stop at Fridhemsplan.

Booking: You can purchase your tickets online, using the Flygbussarna app or in the Airport/Cityterminalen. Please pay attention to the fact that when you book a ticket, you are buying a ride at any of the departing busses from Flygbussarna. This means that you do not buy a ticket for a specific time, but instead you have to make the line and get in the next available bus.

You can access Flygbussarna’s official webpage by clicking here: https://www.flygbussarna.se/en/

Skavsta Airport (NYO)

Skavsta International is a small airport located almost 100km southwest of Stockholm, operating primarily with low cost flights. As for February 2020, there are only two airlines that flight to this location:

  • Ryanair
  • Wizz Air

You can check Skavsta’s official website by clicking here: https://www.skavsta.se/en/

Commercial bus:

Only two bus companies operate the route between Skavsta Airport and Stockholm’s city center.

Option 1: Flygbussarna

Duration: 80min.

Schedule: Buses depart from 8am to 11pm every day, each 30-60min. All the bus departures are coordinated with the flight arrivals. I recommend you to go to Flygbussarna official webpage to check the specific departure times hours.

Rates: 159 SEK approx.

Booking: Pay attention! The ticket that you can buy is valid for any departure. You have to get in the line and get in the bus, but if it is full then you will have to wait for the next one. This fact is specially important when you are traveling from the city to Skavsta, in which case I recommend you to be at Cityterminalen 30min before your preferred departure hour.

You can purchase your tickets online, using the Flygbussarna app or in the Airport/Cityterminalen.

You can access Flygbussarna’s official webpage by clicking here: https://www.flygbussarna.se/en/

Option 2: Flixbus

Duration: 80min.

Schedule: On weekdays there are only 2 departures (morning/night): 8:40am and 9:00pm. On weekends there is an additional bus around noon .

Rates: 60-130 SEK approx.

Booking: You can purchase your tickets online or directly at the Airport/Cityterminalen. I’ll recommend to plan your trip in advance if you want to secure the lowest possible fare.

You can access Flixbus official webpage by clicking here: https://www.flixbus.se/
