Hello again!

I thought it would be nice to introduce you to the wonderfully diverse global health master’s 2020-2021 cohort.

So, this is who we are…

Our nationalities

This year there are 39 global health master’s students. We all come from a range of backgrounds and from many different countries!

Below is a map to show where we are all from. The total number of nationalities is higher than the size of our class, but this is because we are so international that some of us hold more than one citizenship!

Our ages

We also vary massively with our ages. Our ages span over 3 decades, so if you’re thinking of applying but worry that you are too young or too old to apply, then think again!

Our backgrounds

As you would expect on a global master’s programme, our backgrounds vary massively! Many of us come from healthcare backgrounds, but that is not all. Several of us are from other backgrounds, including geography, politics, philosophy, and history of art. I find it really interesting that we all come from such different places, and I would definitely say that this enriches our learning experiences! We are able to talk about global health topics from all sorts of different perspectives, and this definitely makes our debates much more interesting.

Below are the backgrounds of our class. There is also a larger number of backgrounds than the number of students. This is because many people have worked and studied in several different fields before ending up on this master’s programme.

Languages we speak

As this master’s is taught in English, everyone can speak very good English. However, this is not the only language we speak!

Between us, we speak 33 different languages! I find this particularly impressive, especially as I can only speak English fluently. I am always in awe of people that can speak more than one language fluently, and many of the class can speak several languages each!
