5 activities to get to know your new classmates outside of class

One of the most exciting parts (but also maybe stressful for some), is getting to meet all your new classmates during the first weeks of class. At KI, the programmes are very collaborative, so you will get to know your class through lectures and group projects, it still is nice to connect and get to know your peers outside of class.

My favourite type of activities are usually ones that are outdoors and allow me to explore different areas of Stockholm! Here are my top 5 suggestions for activities to plan with a group of your classmates or even your whole class!

Solvik

Solvik is a rental property that includes cabins by a lake that are owned by KI’s Medicinska Foreningen (MF), which is a version of a student union. Students can rent the cabins throughout the year and if you become an MF member you get a discounted rate.

Path in Tyresta National Park

Many classes often book Solvik for a night or two as a nice (and relatively affordable) way to get to know each other; in addition to it being a nice way to get to see some of Stockholm’s surrounding beauty. Solvik is right on the lake, has many bunk beds, a kitchen, sauna etc.

Tyresta National Park

Tyresta Park is one of the largest parks near Stockholm. There are so many things to do: hike, bike, swim, stop at one of the cute cafes. It’s only 1 hour outside of Stockholm with transit and would be a great way to have a large group involved (for no cost)!

Tantolunden

Tanto is a large park right by the water in Södermalm and has so much going on and there is something for everyone. There is a beach volleyball court, soccer nets, green space, docks to swim from, walk/bike along the water and many bars and cafes to stop at. It really is a great place to socialize outdoors, right in the middle of the city (and right by the KI residence Jägargatan making it even more convenient for students).

Haga Parken

This is another large park in Stockholm, that is near the school and is beautiful. There is so much space, so it’s a great place to plan for a picnic or class games!

Vaxholm

eating a meal in Vaxholm

This is one of the most famous islands in the Archipelago and you can get there via ferry or bus. I highly recommend taking the ferry, because it is beautiful and is an activity all on its own. Depending on the “season”, the ferry can be free with your SL transit card. The ferry or bus only takes approximately 1 hour. Vaxholm itself is very pretty and you can walk around, swim, rent bikes, visit the fortress, eat among so many other things!

Overall, I hope some of these suggestions give you some inspiration for planning some class activities. I encourage you to start planning things sooner than later, while the weather is nice and school isn’t quite as busy!

Cheers,

Lauren
