Application period 101: How to Perfect Your CV Form
Are you applying to the MBE program or another program at KI, and you are feeling anxious about the process? Maybe you haven’t started yet and need advice on how to begin. Or perhaps you’re stuck on your CV form or struggling with writer’s block. With the application period on going, I’ve put together some tips and important things to keep in mind to help you confidently hit that SUBMIT button!
Tip 1: Plan your statement of intent
Start early! Even though the deadline for submitting the CV and supporting documents is a month later than the application deadline, I cannot stress enough how crucial it is to start working on your CV form and collecting all the necessary documents well on time! Personally, I started preparing my CV form almost three months before the final deadline. Since the CV letter provides limited space to write, it’s essential to plan your text structure carefully. Start by outlining and refining the details you want to highlight in your letter. This ensures that your statement is concise while still effectively conveying your intent.
Tip 2: Be yourself!
It might sound cliché, but it really is that simple: be yourself. There isn’t really one correct way to write your statement of intent, but it’s important that you are clearly addressing the question(s) asked on the form. Highlight what led you to apply to the program, your ambitions and other achievements. Another tip I highly recommend is asking for feedback from someone you rely on. When I was drafting my statement of intent, receiving valuable feedback from friends and family greatly improved my writing process. Their insights helped me refine my message and present it more clearly. This is also a great way of overcoming writer’s block.
Tip 3: Organize your supporting documents
Submitting a complete and well-organized application is key, and that starts with managing your supporting documents effectively. Looking back, I underestimated how time-consuming it would be to collect, certify, and translate the required documents. Starting early made all the difference!
Create a checklist of everything you need, including transcripts, proof of English proficiency, job certificates, and certificates for extracurricular activities. Note which documents need to be certified or translated, and carefully review the submission guidelines on both the admissions site and CV form to ensure you meet all requirements. Staying organised will save you stress and ensure your application is complete.
Tip 4: Know the deadlines
Mark your calendars! The deadline to send your application with your choice of programs through Universityadmission.se is January 15th 2025. After this, you have a second deadline on February 3rd 2025 to submit all the required supporting documents, including your CV form. all your supporting documents must be certified and translated before the February deadline. If they’re not, they might not be considered as part of your application. Tuition fee-paying students need to have the application fee paid by this date! During my application period, I noted down all the deadlines and made sure I submitted my application and all the documents before the deadline. Doing this gave me extra time to double-check my documents and avoid the last-minute panic. More details on the deadlines can be found on the admission site.
Tip 5: Take it easy and ask for help
The application period can feel overwhelming, especially as deadlines approach and the pressure mounts. It’s normal to feel stressed, but managing that stress is key to staying focused and confident during the application process. Start by creating a clear plan. Break down the application process into smaller tasks, like drafting your statement of intent, gathering documents, or revising your CV form, and set realistic deadlines for each. This can make the workload feel more manageable. Don’t forget to take breaks! A walk, workout, or even quiet time can refresh your mind and improve productivity.
Remember, you’re not alone in this process. Seek support from friends, family, or peers who might be going through similar experiences. They can provide encouragement or even just a listening ear. AIf you have specific questions, reach out to the admissions office or program directors. As digital ambassadors, we’re also happy to answer general questions about studying at KI or specific programs. For more tips, I highly recommend to also check out the other DA’s blogs; Mina’s blog “5 tips for surviving the KI application period” and Kai-Lin’s blog, where she mentions some scholarships you can apply for.
Good luck with your application! Remember to pace yourself, stay organised, and don’t hesitate to reach out for help. Most importantly, take a break and enjoy the holiday season!
Wendy - Bioentrepreneurship
Hej everyone, I'm Wendy from Finland! I'm currently studying in the Bioentrepreneurship master's program (MBE) at Karolinska Institutet. I was drawn to this program because of my interest in the business aspects of life sciences and the unique intersection between science and entrepreneurship. I'm excited to share my journey as an MBE student at KI with you! When I'm not studying, you can find me at the gym, baking, enjoying fika with friends or crocheting. I am also looking forward to exploring the beautiful city of Stockholm – especially discovering and trying out different brunch spots and cafés.
