Blogging in my new home (7,432 km) away from home

Hi, I am Lauren! I am the blogger for the Master’s Public Health Sciences Health Promotion and Prevention stream and I am excited to share my experiences with you! I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, and moved to Vancouver, on the west coast, to study my Bachelors in Public Health. You probably will hear me talk about how much I want everyone to visit Canada, specifically to hike and ski, and try poutine!

I ended up at Karolinska Institutet for three main reasons: first, in my bachelor’s, we studied a lot of Hans Rosling’s work, which led me to do more research into him and subsequently into KI. I loved the idea of studying at a school where I was surrounded by like-minded individuals focused on improving human health; that felt like a very rare opportunity. Second, Sweden is known to have one of the best public health systems in the world, and as a public health student, I wanted to learn from the best! Third, I love to travel and I think incorporating it into your studies is one of the best ways. Previously, I have studied abroad in Hamburg and Dublin, and those experiences have been a pivotal part of my education. Since I have a German passport, it made studying in Europe more accessible.

I am excited to be a Digital Ambassador because I think personal experiences are an invaluable way of acquiring knowledge. I am excited to, in collaboration with the other Digital Ambassadors, write about topics that hopefully will help make your experiences in regards to moving, living and studying in Stockholm easier and more fun!

Thanks so much for reading!
